The world is in continuous change. The means of communication are in continuous change. The climate is changing. Even the 7 Wonders of the World are going to be updated in less than 12 hours.
The Seven Ancient Wonders of the World were all man-made monuments, selected by Philon of Byzantium in 200 B.C. Those monuments were:

1. The Lighthouse of Alexandria
2. The Temple of Artemis
3. The Statue of Zeus
4. The Colossus of Rhodes
5. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
6. The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
7. The Pyramids of Egypt

All had been built between 2,500 B.C. and 200 B.C., and as far as I know, only the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt and one pillar of the Artemis temple exist today.

Now, the New7Wonders founder Bernard Weber is seeking to revive the concept of the 7 Wonders of the World with this global campaign, the New 7 Wonders of the World.
Unlike the original ones, the new wonders will not be chosen by one man, but rather by people all over the world, who wish to give their vote in this campaign. They will be drawn from the earliest time known up through the year 2000.

At the end of 2005, the N7W panel chose 21 candidates from the top 77 nominees that had earned the most votes, and these 21 are now in the final stage of the competition. The official N7W 21 finalist candidates were announced by the panel’s President, Prof. Federico Mayor, on January 1, 2006 in Zurich.

The finalists are:

1. ACROPOLIS, GREECE
2. HAGIA SOPHIA, TURKEY
3. KREMLIN AND ST. BASIL’S CATHEDRAL, RUSSIA
4. COLOSSEUM, ITALY
5. NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE, GERMANY
6. EIFFEL TOWER, FRANCE
7. STONEHENGE, BRITAIN
8. ALHAMBRA, SPAIN
9. GREAT WALL OF CHINA
10. KIYOMIZU TEMPLE, JAPAN
11. SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE, AUSTRALIA
12. ANGKOR WAT, CAMBODIA
13. TAJ MAHAL, INDIA
14. TIMBUKTU, MALI
15. PETRA, JORDAN
16. STATUE OF CHRIST REDEEMER, BRAZIL
17. EASTER ISLAND, CHILE
18. MACHU PICCHU, PERU
19. PYRAMID AT CHICHEN ITZA, MEXICO
20. STATUE OF LIBERTY, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
21. Additionally to the new seven wonders, the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt will remain on the list.
    

The organizers say that more than 90 million people have already cast their votes via internet or phone. On July 7, 2007 (07.07.07), the ceremony of the New 7 Wonders of the World announcement and celebration will take place in Lisbon, Portugal.
