Since I’ve started working in the internet marketing field, I discovered the benefits of using a file sharing service in my small business. Actually, if you know how to do it, you can have all these in house. I’m not an IT knowledgeable person, so I’d rather outsource such services. I need file sharing because I’m outsourcing parts of my work to people that are located in other countries, so I had to use something to make us work as a team, as if we were meeting each other face to face in a real office.
When it comes to cloud computing, file sharing or ftp software, a small to medium size company can use the services offered by various companies with excellent results. For instance, the Egnyte local cloud service provides local access to your files, thus resulting in a higher speed of working with the files, especially with the very large ones. In case your internet connection is down, you can still access the files on the Egnyte Local Cloud, or ELC, and when things get back to normal with your internet provider, the files will be synchronized with the ones on the server. I reckon that’s a good solution for teams which are spread across many countries or cities to be able to work together as if they were meeting each other every day in the office. After all, thanks to cloud hosting solutions and other similar services, we can now work from home and save money and time for ourselves and for our pleasures.
Hi, thanks for the tip. I looked at Engyte but it is a little too pricy for me. I run a small business doing image and document copyrighting services for clients. I’d been looking for a solution for while that would not only allows me to store my files online but allow me to collaborate with clients, and share file easily.
It took a while but I finally settled on SMEStorage.com. This service allows me to easily sync my local files to Amazon S3 by using their private cloud / public cloud syncing. It works like this. I setup an FTP Server that maps to a directory where I keep client files. I plug this directory into their private cloud solution which treats and FTP directory as a private cloud. I can then access these files online if I want to. I then choose to do a scheduled sync which takes these files and syncs them up to Amazon S3 at regular times of the day.
I’ve setup a collaborative business group with each client which allows me to not only easily share files but also allows clients to upload new ideas / files themselves to the same workspace.
I find the whole things works really well for me and really fits in well with the way our small distributed team works.
Thanks Simonne for the insight on Egnyte. I have been using Sale Force, and while they are a great company they are fairly expensive.
cheers!
Always like to see info on Cloud Computing! Looks like Australians are starting to wake up to it now with Telstra announcing a $500m spend this week on cloud computing services.
ya file sharing helps a lot for working in a team. it is always great to work in a team this makes the working experience more efficient. But cloud computing services a little bit costly. i prefer to use ftp software if need some low buget file sharing otherwise cloud computing services are best. we can also share file for free from many websites but there is a security risk there. well this is a great post thanks for sharing this.
Our team has been using a file sharing solution from http://www.teveren.com for a few months now, we are very happy with the results, I recommend it to any small business looking to share files.
