Just after I wrote the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Electric Toothbrush review, I discovered another electric toothbrush which looked appealing to me: the Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 rechargeable sonic toothbrush. I was attracted to this one because it is also called “HealthyWhite”. Who wouldn’t want their teeth two shades whiter without having to pay the price for professional whitening?
Since my last post about dental hygiene I asked a couple of dentists about electric toothbrushes. Both of them thought Sonicare was a great system, proven to clean better than others. That’s because Sonicare toothbrushes oscillate back and forth, just like in manual tooth brushing, while older systems use spinning. The Sonic technology is very effective in plaque removal, because of its dynamic cleaning action. This means that the ultrasonic waves will act upon the teeth surface even from a distance, thus reaching deep between teeth and along the gumline. The result will be a better oral hygiene, which translates into healthier gums. Here’s a testimonial from a user of Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 HealthyWhite:
The dental hygienist was super happy to see my gums are getting healthier, when they do the measurements I’ve been getting mostly 4’s (1’s are ideal, 5’s are no good), but this time, they were at mostly 2’s with a couple of 3’s!! My gums/teeth and mouth are overall getting better with each visit.
The UV Sanitizer is another strong point of these electronic toohbrushes. It helps killing bacteria that proliferate in our mouth and between the bristles of our toothbrushes. By using a UV sanitizer, you can use a toothbrush head until the bristles wear out and not only for one month, as recommended by oral hygienists in case of regular or electric toothbrushes without a sanitizing system. Philips toothbrushes have the UV sanitizer integrated with the charger. That’s great, because it takes up less space.
Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 HealthyWhite works in three brushing modes: Clean, Sensitive, Clean and White. When in Clean mode, the toothbrush operates at full power, offering best cleaning results. The Sensitive mode is gentle and it is best for brushing sensitive areas. The Clean and White mode offers extended brushing time for focused polishing. All modes are timed, so you know you brushed your teeth correctly. This is also great for children. They won’t be able to get away with only a few brush strokes because they’ll know brushing ends only when the toothbrush stops.
- The difference between Sonicare FlexCare and HealthyWhite is that the first one has 5 working modes: Clean, Sensitive, Refresh, Massage and Gum Care. I’m not totally sure I need such a differentiation. I suppose the three modes of HealthyWhite should be enough. See how hard it is to buy a new toothbrush? There are too many details and the more you read, to bigger the urge to know more. I’ll probably have to stop reading and just decide for one of the toothbrushes I researched. One thing I’m sure of: I want the Sonicare technology.
- The ProResults brush head offers a contour fit, wider bristle range and angled neck for better tooth coverage and cleaning.
- The Hydroclean brush head directs fluid between the teeth, getting closer to the benefits of flossing. This doesn’t mean you should give up flossing, but it contributes to a better oral hygiene.
What’s in the Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 HealthyWhite pack:
- 2 HealthyWhite handles
- 2 Standard ProResults brush heads
- 1 Hydro Clean brush head
- 1 UV sanitizer with integrated charger
- 1 Travel charger
- 2 Travel cases
The Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 HealthyWhite pack is ideal for couples. Each toothbrush will cost you less than if you bought them separately. Well, I know there’s only one Hydro Clean brush head, but you can flip the coin to see who gets that one.
What people who bought the Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 HealthyWhite have to say
This is why love Amazon: it allows for great research before buying something. Users who bought the products come and give their opinion about it. They describe their experience. They sometimes list the pros and cons of a product. They tell stories about customer service. Sometimes they are funny or unexpected. Like this one:
My husband and I usually buy the new model for us and give our four boys the old one with a new tooth brush head.
If you asked me, I would buy the boys the new model and new heads for my husband and I. Or I would buy new ones for the whole family. It’s true that the person who wrote that review has four boys. Getting new toothbrushes for everybody at the same time can be quite expensive. Anyway, here’s more:
What I especially love about this new model is that you can sanitize it … The old ones have places for bacteria to hide up inside the tooth brush head. This new model does not!
Another user who loves his Sonicare says:
Combined with my Oxycare 3000 “oral irrigator” (like a Waterpik), I feel like my teeth and gums have never been cleaner and healthier.
I’m a big fan or oral irrigators either. I’m using a Panasonic one and I’m pleased. It’s now time to pair it with a Philips Sonicare toothbrush.
Here are a few quotes from users who upgraded from a previous version of Sonicare:
After purchasing and using this Upgraded Sonicare, Wow, much better than the previous one. I have been using this toothbrush for a while now and I really have to say, this is the best toothbrush I have ever used. My teeth feel so much cleaner after each use.
The new handle design does not have a well to collect toothpaste and mineral build up. Brush heads snap on to a pin type connection. Much easier to keep clean. Makes me feel cleaner to sanitize & store brush heads in the closed compartment. I have had used a sonicare toothbrush for more than 5 years. The upgrade was well worth it.
I saw this dual HealthyWhite set on sale & decided to try it & wow, was I happy with the results! The Clean & White mode has my teeth back to their pearly whiteness after two weeks — regular Clean cycle for daily use & Clean & White once weekly.
I gave the second unit & travel charger to my boyfriend & he’s made the switch over from his Oral-B Pro 4000 with raves.
