You decided to build a website, you bought a domain name and a hosting package, you started your online activity and now you try hard to bring some good traffic in.
But did you ever think if the domain you bought was ever used before? How did your site look in a past life?
Well, there is such a time machine which leads you to a virtual cemetery. Here you can take a look into the past life of web domains. Internet Archive Wayback Machine contains over 100 terabytes and 10 billion web pages archived from 1996 to the present. All you have to do is type in your web address and press the Take me back button.
I did a quantum leap for this domain name, AllTipsAndTricks dot com, and I got this page dating back from 2003, with this dusty, old look and with the claim “Making life a little easier one tip at a time”. The site was alive only from April to December 2003, so we can say it died young. What killed it, the story does not tell. I can only imagine that the owner had something better to do, so the forum had no entries, the chat had no activity and the guestbook was full of spam entries.
I wonder if there is any traffic still coming to my site from this past life of it (I rather guess not).
What was your site in its previous life? How long did it linger until the actual reincarnation?
