Christmas is almost here, so many of you are probably thinking about getting ready for the big day. Christmas decorations, trees, garlands are only a few of those nice things that help us create a festive atmosphere to enjoy with our friends and family.
But how do you choose your Christmas tree? Do you use the same old artificial one you bought ages ago or are you going for the natural stuff? Either way, here are a few tips to help you make the best decision, and if they don’t help, you can watch this series of 7 videos on how to choose your artificial tree.
Are your rooms too small for a big tree?
Don’t worry, there’s a way to enjoy a full-height tree: just measure your room height, then get a pencil Christmas tree about one foot smaller. Such trees have a base width of 20-50 inches, thus being suitable for narrow spaces or for room corners. Anyway, prior to shopping, make sure you measure your available space (both in width and height) and don’t forget that if you want to use a tree topper, you’ll need to take its height into account as well.
Do you have kittens?
Kittens are well-known for their inquisitive character, so they are probably going to be willing to “explore” your Christmas tree and its ornaments. Real pine tree needles can be very harmful if swallowed, therefore you should be careful with leaving the kittens unattended nearby the tree, even if it’s artificial. You never know what crazy idea a cute, little cat might have. Here’s only a small sample of cat Christmas fun. How cute is that?
Do you want a realistic look for your tree or do you want to save some money?
Artificial trees have two types of needles, made either from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or PE (polyethylene). The PVC ones are cheaper, but they look and feel artificial, they are by far not as nice as the PE ones. It’s true that they come much cheaper, so if the budget is your major concern, a tree with PE needles might not be a wise choice for you. Nevertheless, keep in mind that there are two things you want from your artificial tree to be: fireproof and fade-resistant.
Are you a last minute shopper?
There are situations when you can get amazing last minute deals. However, when it comes to artificial Christmas trees, you’d better buy one before the best ones are sold out. There are tree models which are available in only 2-3 pieces, so you might want to grab yours as soon as possible.
Another good shopping tip is to try to take advantage of the Black Friday.
Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. The term dates back to at least 1966, although its usage was primarily on the East coast. The term has become more common in other parts of the country since 2000. Because Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday occurs between the 23rd and the 29th of November. According to Reuters, in 2007 135 million people participated in the Black Friday shopping rush.
