As Akismet is coming by default with all WordPress installs, everybody who uses WordPress for blogging is using it.
I’m also using it since the beginning, and I’ve been pleased with the way it behaves: I think it got only one or two comments which were not spam, and it learned after I de-spammed them that those IP addresses are OK.
Over the past week, it seems that the Akismet monster got really hungry: it is eating all my comments on all blogs, including the Reader Appreciation Project, where I’m one of the authors. For a while, I just wrote the authors of blogs where I commented a small note, asking them to check and de-spam my comment, hoping that Akismet will learn, and my further comments will be OK. But it seems the monster never learns, it just doesn’t like me (or maybe it likes me too much, and this is why it’s attempting to eat me alive).
The result is that I stopped commenting, because I don’t want to embarass people, but I feel like I’m mute. Does soembody know what can I do to get rid of this (except from changing my internet service provider or using a free proxy)?
If some of you wonder why am I not commenting anymore, no, I’m not upset, I’m just chased by the hungry monster.
That sucks Simonne. I thought that it was something that perhaps I did so I changed some comment code on RA Project.
It’s a shame that you are getting eaten alive (figuratively) because you always post good comments. Perhaps someone should write a plugin that allows a commenter to see if their comment was flagged as spam, and if it was, to contest it. The comment then would be put into the moderation queue instead of the spam grinder.
Hey, Ronald, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier that this happens on all blogs except this one, but I had no idea you are going to change the code on RAP. Over the past few days, I de-spammed myself the comments I’ve made on RAP.
I’m now successfully using Defensio after having problems with Aksimet.
Hey Simonne: I was shocked myself ‘coz its just recently it started happening! I did see you on the MyBlogLog widget and thought your comment might have gotten trapped again and checked out the spam list and didnt find you there, got worried 😀 I probably will be trying Defensio ‘coz i’ve been hearing about it a lot lately!
Hi Pearl, the problem fixed by itself yesterday, but I was in a hurry when I visited your page, so I didn’t have the time to leave a comment.
SpamKarma2, is da bomb. I have always stayed away from Akismet with their API key needs and such. SK2 is incredibly simple and advanced depending on your needs.
Thanks Jason, I’m going to give it a try. I’ve never heard of it before. Thanks for your input.
